Newborn Revived at Medicover Hospital, Bengaluru, After 85-Minute Medical Battle; 33-Day Treatment a Success

Bengaluru: Taking on the challenge of treating a newborn with a life-threatening medical condition in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, doctors arranged an emergency transfer in a specially equipped ambulance, bringing the baby to Medicover Hospital in Bengaluru in just 85 minutes. Following 33 days of extensive treatment, the baby made a full recovery and was discharged home. Doctors and hospital management shared details of the case at a press conference held at Medicover Hospital today.

What Was the Case?

The newborn baby girl of Rajani, a resident of Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, suffered from severe respiratory distress immediately after birth. Her condition was critical due to meconium aspiration syndrome, in which meconium (the baby’s first stool) enters the lungs, along with pneumothorax, a condition in which air leaks into the space between the lung and the chest wall, causing the lung to collapse.

The baby was immediately transported safely from Madanapalle to Medicover Hospital in Whitefield, Bengaluru, in a specially equipped ambulance with advanced life-support facilities. The transfer was completed in just 85 minutes.

Doctors Explain the Treatment

Speaking at the press conference, senior doctors Dr. Shivashankar Diggikar and Dr. Latheesh explained, “When the baby arrived at the hospital, her respiratory function and blood pressure were severely compromised. She was immediately admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and treated with High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) and fluid therapy.

“Along with the respiratory complications, the baby also had laryngomalacia and other medical challenges. These conditions were managed through 33 days of treatment. The baby has now recovered completely and is healthy.”

Medicover Hospital Reaffirms Commitment to Advanced Paediatric Care

Speaking on the occasion, Medicover Hospital Regional Director Sidda Reddy said, “Our team of highly skilled doctors successfully managed this extremely complex and challenging case. We are proud that our team responded immediately during this medical emergency and saved the baby’s life. We will soon be launching an advanced Paediatric Cardiology department in this region to further strengthen specialised healthcare services for children.”

Parents Express Gratitude and Joy

After 33 days of continuous medical care and an intense fight for survival, the baby’s family was overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing their child recover and smile again. The baby’s father and family members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at Medicover Hospital.

“We will always remain grateful to the doctors and staff at Medicover Hospital for arranging the ambulance at the right time and caring for our baby like a mother,” the family said.

The press conference was attended by Srivalli, Centre Head of the hospital; doctors Dr. Shivashankar Diggikar and Dr. Latheesh; Regional Director Sidda Reddy; and the baby’s parents.
